We see things not as they are but as WE are

girls, middle schoolers, stress, tween

8th grade was the worst year of my life.

I was 13, my parents were annoying and embarrassing (wearing those Birkenstocks!)

No one liked me at school. I didn’t have any friends. I was miserable.

Wait a second.  Is that true? Did I not have any friends? I actually did. But I had convinced myself that they didn’t like me.

What really happened is that I felt insecure with myself and I viewed the world through the lens of “No one likes me.”

This experience is a huge inspiration for why I teach Girls Rock Yoga classes. I realize now that I made up a lot of stories in my head that skewed how I saw the world.

I love to use props during class.  These large red glasses represent seeing the world through a distorted lens. Maybe making a bigger deal out of something than it really is. ( A trait amplified in middle schoolers!).

How are you seeing the world?

In my classes we play games, do some yoga, act… all to create insight in to ourselves. Shed some light on the negative voices in our heads.

I’m currently accepting students for my upcoming Fall classes. If you feel your daughter could benefit by learning to gain insight into herself, then please sign her up.
