Embracing my inner Brené Brown

Welcome!

For some time now I have wanted to start a blog. I’ve been dragging my heels though because I’m scared to put myself out there. Not scared so much of people I DON’T know reading my blog, but people I DO know. Funny, how I think the people that know and love me would judge me harshly. I have a big fear of what if they don’t agree with my opinions? Well, with the inspiration of Brene Brown and her tenet that vulnerability breeds courage and connection I have decided it’s more important to go for it. My intention is to build a community of like minded folks that can learn from each other.

Why Blog?

Because I read a TON of books and listen to a ton of teleseminars. I’m amazed and overwhelmed by the wealth of information and talent out there in the world. Yet I listen to all this stuff and then forget it.  So I thought if I write and start a dialogue about the content,  then I will increase my chances of remembering it! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said, “I just read this really good book.” Other person, “Oh what were the key things you got out of it?” Me- “Um, something about parenting and I can’t remember.”

Blog Focus

My main topic will be parenting. I currently help tween girls develop courage, confidence and compassion through yoga, improv games, and other group activities (www.GirlsRockYoga.com).   However my blog will be focused on both genders. My main tenet though of working with children is that the work starts with working on ourselves. I’m amazed how my child’s behavior can change when I’ve done some deep work on myself. Parenting really is all about how we react to our children, and when we can change how we react, we can parent more effectively.  Having children puts you on the fast track to personal growth if you choose to work on it.

I’m also really focused on using our intuition to parent and to teach our children to use their intuition. Living from our hearts is really the ultimate goal. I know I’ve read many parenting books and tried some of the methods, only to realize later that it is not in alignment with my heart values so it doesn’t work or doesn’t feel right to me.

I invite you to leave feedback if you resonate with what I’m saying or have another perspective to share. Harsh negative feedback is not welcome here.

Thanks for reading!

Just be,

Kim
